Data Collection Lead – Project Mirror Ghɔmálá (Remote with occasional on-site presence)

About the Project:

Project Mirror Ghɔmálá is part of Program Engage Ghɔmálá, an initiative aimed at promoting and preserving Ghɔmálá through technology. Our work involves the development of NLP and AI systems, including machine translation tools tailored for Ghɔmálá.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Data Collection Lead who will play a crucial role in gathering, managing and validating linguistic data essential for our NLP and AI models. This role involves working remotely with occasional on-site work.

Key Responsibilities:

– Contribute to the development of guidelines and methodologies for effective data collection and processing.

– Lead and coordinate the collection of linguistic data in Ghɔmálá, including text, speech, and other relevant formats.

– Collaborate with language experts, native speakers, and community members to ensure accurate and culturally sensitive data collection.

– Organize and annotate linguistic data for use in NLP and AI applications.

– Liaise with the technical team to align data collection processes with model development needs.

Qualifications:

– A degree in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science with a focus on linguistics, or an equivalent combination of qualifications.

– Strong understanding of linguistics, language models, and NLP techniques.

– Experience in data collection, annotation, and management, especially in a linguistic context.

– Ability to work remotely and travel to on-site locations as needed.

– Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

– Knowledge of the Ghɔmálá language and culture is a plus, but not mandatory.
